The emergence of COVID-19 designates the need for a guide for shelters to make decisions to maintain lifesaving operations. The possibility of open-intake shelters having to shut down adoption operations does not affect the need to continue to admit animals in need of immediate shelter. The risks associated with this is that shelters take in more animals than they can provide housing or live outcomes and could lead to unnecessary decisions to euthanize animals due to a lack of space.

Athena was abandoned in a vacant apartment after she was used for breeding and tossed away like trash 6 years ago. Athena found an amazing new home and has come so far but she was recently diagnosed with Osteosarcoma! Athena had to have her leg amputated to relieve her pain from the tumor in her leg. This sweet, loving and playful rescue pup now will need Chemotherapy to overcome this obstacle!
Athena is our Salty Dog of the Month for February and we hope you will help us support her and overcome this hurtle!

Skylar was recently hit by a car that shattered her hip. Following the accident her owners decided that they didn’t want her anymore. Her former owners may have given up on her, but we will not! She is going to also need a lot of rehabilitation once her hip surgery is completed and that is why we are asking for our supporters help in getting her back on her feet. Skylar is a 1 year old 40-pound female Husky and will be up for adoption after her surgery and rehab.
