Our January Salty Dog of the Month is Mindy, an overly sweet fawn pug. Mindy had surgery in April to remove a growth in one of her eyes. As per the biopsy, this painful eye condition (SCC) is a form of Cancer that affects the outer layers of skin cells. Mindy is in a tremendous amount of pain and will need a second surgery to remove her eye. Mindy needs our help!
Meet our Salty Dog for the months of August and September. Clark is not our typical candidate for Salty “Dog” of the month. Even though he is technically feline he is very much a dog at heart. We know how much our fur babies mean to us and how important they are in our lives.
Meet our Salty Dog of the month for the month of May, Sawyer. We chose Sawyer because the chances of making a full recovery are very high despite his condition! Sawyer has a growing tumor infiltrating his ear canal and causing him severe pain, so he needs surgery to remove it as soon as possible before it potentially spreads.
This month’s Salty Dog hits very close to home. Meet Shiloh – this sweet girl is one of our volunteer’s dogs. Shiloh has suddenly been diagnosed with cancer unexpectedly, and needs the mass removed and chest X-rays to confirm that it has not spread.
Let us introduce our Salty Dog of the month for February – Athena!
Athena was abandoned in a vacant apartment after she was used for breeding and tossed away like trash 6 years ago. Athena found an amazing new home and has come so far but she was recently diagnosed with Osteosarcoma! Athena had to have her leg amputated to relieve her pain from the tumor in her leg. This sweet, loving and playful rescue pup now will need Chemotherapy to overcome this obstacle!

Thor is a five-month-old Husky puppy and was recently rescued from the Miami Dade County Shelter. Based on our specialist’s examination, Thor has a spinal condition that is preventing him from being able to walk. He is starting immediate intense rehabilitation and will need rehab for 30+ days to see if we can increase his quality of life and his mobility.
Meet our Salty Dog of the month for August. Wylie is a 9-month old puppy that was thrown out of a car window by his former owner while driving. He will need extensive surgery to correct his legs and hips.
Venus is a Husky puppy that was surrendered by her previous owners. When she arrived to our partner animal shelter, she was extremely emaciated and malnourished. In addition, she required emergency pneumothorax surgery to remove a part of her lung. Being given up to a shelter, arriving at the rescue, and immediately undergoing major open chest surgery has been extremely overwhelming for her, but this extremely sweet girl is handling such an awful situation with grace as she recovers at her foster parents’ home.
We rescued this poor pitbull dog that throughout her life was used as a breading machine and for dog fighting. The previous “owner” came to my clinic to euthanize her because she wasn’t useful anymore. In his words “she was just a problem he wanted to get rid of.”
A few weeks ago, a foster picked up Joel in a pool of his own blood. He had been hit by a car and left to die. She took him to hospital where they had to partially amputate his tail and ear due to it being dead-tissue.
