Smokey Happy Tail

A dog, later named Smokey, was found at the end of March, tied to a tree at a homeless camp in West Palm Beach, Florida. He had severe burns all over his body, which looked extremely painful, and the poor pup was visibly distressed.

Rescuers cut the chain that bound him to the tree, and removed him from the brushfire area. They then rushed him to Peggy Adams Animal Rescue, where they examined him and determined that he’d need extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation.

He went to stay at Jupiter Pet Emergency & Specialty Center, where he received multiple blood transfusions, daily baths and bandage changes, and treatments in the hyperbaric chamber to help reduce swelling and pain from the burns. Eventually, he started to eat again (with the help of his “friends,” AKA our nurses). In time, he became less fearful, more trusting, and finally began to realize that he was on the road to recovery!

Thanks to the amazing vets and nurses at JPESC, after just a few weeks, Smokey was already doing so much better. He knew that they were all there to help him, and he became less afraid and more trusting. Smokey’s doctors fell in love with him so much so that one of them, Dr. Thomas, ended up adopting him in May!

Smokey went back to JPESC for another check-up and got to visit the staff while there. In the video below, you’ll see Smokey reuniting with the vet who helped save his life. By the look of Smokey’s reaction when he sees Dr. Latimer, it’s very obvious that Smokey loves him so much and is beyond thankful for everything he’s done to help him.
